Culture & heritage
The history of Chamonix goes back many centuries. Its cultural heritage is rich and varied: baroque churches and chapels, mansions and palaces form the end of the XIX century, summer houses, vestiges of pasture activity...
Many heroic adventures of the early alpinism took place in the Mont Blanc Massif, making Chamonix a very special place.
By its history and the alpinism, Chamonix is closely linked to its nearby neighbours: The Aosta Valley in Italy and the Valais region in Switzerland, sharing the same alpine culture.
All who love culture and history, will find another good reason to come and visit Chamonix museums, exhibitions and participate in cultural events.
